Position Summary
This position supports the Defense Department’s Defense Information Systems Agency’s (DISA) located at Seymour Air Force Base North Carolina. The technical operations specialist provides Global Information Grid telecommunications advice operational support and technical services support. The technical specialist would serve as the Site Coordinator providing operational oversight and assistance in planning programming engineering and management support for this critical infrastructure function. Individual will serve as the configuration control function point of contact and provide necessary reporting services. This specialist will also serve as technical specialist for ensuring telecommunications services provided by supporting telecommunications companies are compliant with associated Federal and Defense Department standards. Individual must have and maintain a valid U.S. Government security clearance in order to be retained in the position.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains voice data and video communications including verification of proper functioning of devices
  • Supervises voice data and video network design control and programming of both PBX and Switch systems
  • Anticipates voice/data hardware and software needs for planning and budgeting via monitoring the Agency communications usage
  • Administers acquisition and placement of telephones pagers cellular phones and two-way radios
  • Collaborates with Technology Manager and Network Engineer concerning voice data and video security access via telecommunications
  • Provides programming support and maintenance of Agency voice mail systems
  • Logs service calls and maintains a log of corrective action initiated on Agency phone systems and reports
  • Maintains and develops Information Systems department network diagrams and floor layouts
  • Provides project management for new hardware installations voice data and video systems
  • Monitors the phone system consoles and interacts with users to maintain optimum operating environments
  • Works with vendors to provide voice and data communications recommendations for Agency information systems technology needs
  • lans cable topology configuration for multiple a facility organization
  • Identifies and provides solutions to Command Control Communications Computer Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems operational problems
  • After hour duty may be required to ensure seven day per week system availability
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • BA degree from post secondary school
  • Minimum of twelve years experience in career field is required
  • Minimum of four years supervisory experience
Skills and Certifications
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Advanced knowledge of Defense Department C4ISR systems/infrastructure and supporting architectures; and knowledge of various telephone system architectures and capabilities including the ability to troubleshoot system malfunctions
  • Telecommunications Engineering Analyst background
  • Outstanding ability to clearly and concisely communicate orally and in writing with both Government and commercial service providers
