Position Summary
The General Accountant performs tasks typically performed by an Accountant. Works with a number of Financial Systems. Define customer accounting requirements and work with Systems Analysts and Specialist to implement those requirements. Recommend changes and techniques to improve the overall integrated accounting system. Review and analyze accounting reports for the purpose of determining the reasonableness of the reports and accuracy of the systems in preparing them. Individual must be able to attain and maintain a valid U.S. Government security clearance in order to be retained in the position.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in development and implementation of accounting inventory and property accounting systems and budgetary accounting control practices
  • Determine user functional requirements for specific accounting applications. Define new requirements or determine enhancements to existing processes
  • Document or update the functional specifications for the new or enhanced process
  • Interpret functional requirements for System Analysts
  • Execute various system tests to validate that the new or enhanced functions meet the user`s requirements
  • Perform those tasks as stated by the Project Work Plan
  • Assist in the preparation of User Guides or other training materials
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 24 hours of accounting required
  • Minimum of 2 years Accounting experience
  • Experience may be substituted for degree with a minimum of 24 hours of accounting courses completed or Associate Degree in Accounting degree from post secondary school; OR Vocational or Technical School Certificate
Skills and Certifications
  • Solid understanding of Financial Systems and Applications
  • Ability to manage heavy workload and meet strict deadlines
  • Advanced PC skills – Microsoft Office: Excel Access.
