Position Summary
Accounting Clerks shall maintain books of original entry and special subsidiary ledgers to permit reconciling and balancing of selected accounts with the Department Accounting Offices and other Governmental Agencies. Accounting Clerks shall perform research and analysis to ensure accuracy and make adjustments as necessary to bring the accounts to balance. Accounting Clerks process entries into the accounting system which updates the National Statement of Cash Transactions. The Accounting Clerks also access the US Treasury Goals System by using a Personal Computer software package. From the Goals System they obtain the Regional Disbursing Office totals by schedule and confirm the schedule in the Financial Systems. Individual must be able to attain and maintain a valid U.S. Government security clearance in order to be retained in the position.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accounting Clerks will obtain receive process and record various accounting documents into the Financial Information System
  • Accounting Clerks distribute supporting information about the above transactions to the various customer accounting offices
  • The Accounting Clerks shall process Simplified Intergovernmental Billings and Collections (SIBAC) documents
  • Accounting Clerks shall make determination of the Administration Region/District to whom the charges belong enter the charge into the system and prepare intra-office transfers to each location
  • Accounting Clerks shall review validate and properly process collections to FAA or other DOT organizations various payment items cancelled by Treasury and cancelled electronic transfer items
  • Accounting Clerks shall review validate and process billing or paying other Government Agencies
  • Accounting Clerks must obtain by printing from Treasury’s On-Line Payment and Collection (OPAC) System bills to the Department from other Agencies
  • Accounting Clerks assist in the reconciliation of the Statement of Cash Transactions reported by the Treasury
  • Accounting Clerks receive and refer telephone calls and relay messages
Education and Experience
  • An Associate OR Four-Year Accounting Degree
  • Good understanding of Financial Systems and Applications
  • Minimum of 1 year Accounting experience
Skills and Certifications
  • Computer proficiency including knowledge of Microsoft Office products – Word Excel etc
